While prepping for a much needed lawn-mowing session, I was impressed by something that would normally bother me, that being a neglected yard. Some of the blades had gotten to around the 5-6 inch range, and that’s not a good thing. Not normally, anyway.

But today it was.

There was a steady breeze rolling on this particular autumn day, the sun was bright, and I was captivated by the beauty of it all. As the wind whipped through the little field of green in my back yard, my mind was graciously shifted from chore mode into a spirit of awe and gratitude.

The blades bent and bounced back, some glistening in the sunlight as the show went on. It was a good moment.

The thought that God had so carefully and meticulously planned for each one of them to be there in that precise arrangement brought a smile. The realization that He had also put me in that place at that moment to witness it all made me feel humble, thankful and warm.

Even as I took it in I couldn’t help but imagine that future place that He has prepared for His own. What will the grass be like there? What will it feel like? What will it smell like? Will I have to mow?

Thank God for every glimpse that points to the perfect future He has prepared. A future with perfect grass, perfect breezes and perfect light.

Little things like glistening grass blowing in the breeze can have a way of both blessing us here and reminding us of the infinitely greater blessings to come, if we’ll let them. Arrival in that place is an awesome thing to contemplate. What a day that will be!

In the meantime, I still have a lawn to mow…and that’s a good thing…

  1. I once was told of a framer who hit his thumb with his hammer. He immediately fell to his knees and thanked his Lord for giving him a thumb to hit.

All things in a Christian's life are worthy of praise whether that Christian is walking with the Lord or not, because the Lord is still with him. It's tough sometimes, but He knows what will bring about His perfect will; it's up to us to listen and follow.
