DC Tea Party 9 12 09

What a difference a day makes. A day when somewhere around two million strong decide to march on the nation’s capitol, that is.

As the masses mobilized, the Statist media went into a tizzy and liberal activist from coast to coast scurried about trying to tag the millions of liberty-loving American protesters as everything from unenlightened and reactionary to hateful and (of course) racist.

With the ACORN/Child-Prostitution story largely ignored by Statist media, Americans taking to the streets of Washington DC were targeted for special treatment.

There is a silver lining to this dark moment in the history of American media, however. A very large silver lining.

As the Tea Party in DC rolled on and similar events unfolded across the nation, there was a growing sense among pro-liberty activists that  State-dominated media, while certainly a problem and pain in many ways, no longer mattered nearly as much as it once had.

This week’s wildly successful launch of BigGovernment.com, which came roaring out of the gate by breaking the ACORN “Child-Prostitute Organizing” story, was but the latest rallying point for a Constitution-loving conservative movement that has hit high gear and has the leftist beltway crowd coming unglued.

The once-silent majority has clearly found its voice.

Not bad for a bunch of backward, ignorant racists.

  1. So, what you're saying here, BigSlick, is that the "Million Man March" a few years ago was in reality about the "Hundred Thousand Man March" because the crowd then was not appreciably bigger than the one seen last weekend?

Compare the pics (from approximately the same angles) and you'll see what I mean.

And that great advocate of man's brotherhood Mr. Farrakan(sp?) had more than a year to plan, promote and execute that rally. Seems to me the percentage of people of color last weekend was higher than the percentage of "European"-looking people at the other rally. Wonder why?

  2. You can bet the figure will be between 2.5 and 3 million by the time Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Shaun Hannity have finished pimping it on Monday.

ABC news, like many other REPUTABLE (i.e. not Fox) outlets got their figures from the Fire Department, who unlike Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly et al are actually experts at giving pretty accurate estimates of the number of people. And they reckoned it was 50,000 to 60,000

    1. The All Barack Channel (or NBC/CBS/CNN), just like the union firefighters, have absolutely no dog in this fight, right? I mean, it's not like they'd be embarrassed to admit they didn't give this little gathering any feet, yet there were still so many people who showed up of their own volition without getting paid (unlike the bussed SEIU, union and ACORN "volunteers" brought in to protect the proceedings at the recent town hall meetings.

And if there were simply 60k-70k in attendance, why did the police keep calling in more and more off-duty officers for OT? Seems to me a fairly accurate estimate will be gotten from the amount of OT charged to the city from this little gathering.

  3. Quote form Michelle Malkin (way down deep in her post):

Late update: The misattribution to ABC News came from Freedomworks:

Conservative activists, who organized a march on the U.S. Capitol today in protest of the Obama administration’s health care agenda and government spending, erroneously attributed reports on the size of the crowds to ABC News.

Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, the group that organized the event, said on stage at the rally that ABC News was reporting that 1 million to 1.5 million people were in attendance.

At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as “tens of thousands.”

Brendan Steinhauser, spokesman for FreedomWorks, said he did not know why Kibbe cited ABC News as a source.

As a result of Kibbe’s erroneous attribution, several bloggers and commenters repeated the misinformation.

Thanks to ABC News for clearing this up.

  4. This is a quote from Michelle Malkin herself. Freedomworks started the Big Lie and y'all bought into it.

Apparently Michelle gets off on reporting massively inflated figures and then burying the truthful correction down deep in the middle of the blog-post.

What else can you expect from the FRINGE WingNuts?

May God have mercy on you.

    1. Well, now that we've had a couple of days to examine what really went on last Saturday, it seems the consensus attendance was somewhere between 1/2 and 2 million. Just being a dumb country boy (but saved) I'd guestimate it between 1/2 and 3/4 mil to be conservative.

And I failed to see where MM's final admission of attendance was only 60k-70k, and I looked pretty hard. Maybe I just missed it, but if I didn't, don't you think your last sentence a little harsh there, BigSlick?

  5. I'm awfully glad you've decided to give God a break and take over His job of deciding salvation for individuals and groups, BigSlick. A little projection there, wasn't it? It would be interesting to see how you define "Christian."

And, BTW, anyone with more than two active brain cells should have been able to tell that there were more than 50,000 to 75,000 people at the rally yesterday, probably by a multiple of about ten or more.

  6. The turnout was 50,000 to 75,000.

You are no Christian. You are a political hack taking Our Lord and Saviour's name in vain to incite hateful thought.

    Your website is blasphemy.

  7. Just like true Americans came out on 9/11/2001 to support workers at Ground Zero, and record number of volunteers joining military, the true Americans are coming out now to show that we are in charge, not some political hacks pretending to control us.
