Our Star Trek just got one step closer to reality.

Back in October, we asked the question: Enterprise, Falcon, or Galactica? What will Christians use to explore the restored cosmos?

It appears that Enterprise may have jumped out to an early lead of sorts. According to a report posted by The Mirror earlier this week, something akin to “Star Trek impulse drive” may have actually been developed:

Flying to the moon could take just FOUR hours thanks to a British invention that uses solar power to produce thrust.

The EM Drive, which has been compared to the impulse drive in Star Trek, was developed almost 15 years by British boffin Roger Shawyer but was originally mocked as being impossible.

Experts at NASA have since climbed down and admitted they believe it works while a scientist in Germany has been able to show how the invention produces thrust.

. . . According to the website Hacked: “White proposes that the EM Drive’s thrust is due to virtual particles in the quantum vacuum that behave like propellant ions in magneto-hydrodynamical propulsion systems, extracting “fuel” from the very fabric of space-time and eliminating the need to carry propellant.”

The EM Drive has been compared to the Impulse Drive on board the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek, but continues to baffle experts as it goes against the principles of physics that state if something is moving forward there must be a force pushing in the other direction.

How cool would this sort of breakthrough be?

What sort of applications would it find above and beyond that for which it has originally been developed?

What would it lead to next?

What would what it leads to next lead to next?

See how cool this is?

See how important, valuable and off-the-charts supercool it is?

These are important and profitable questions to consider, Christian. Just think of all of the ways that lives, cultures, and civilization might be improved through this sort of thing. Think of all the ways that Christ might be glorified and His people might be served through its development use.

Even so, these are the sorts of questions that most Christians tend to avoid or dismiss these days, which is why Pagans tend to be at the cutting edge of technological advance and application. This is one major reason why Pagans presently (and temporarily) dominate culture and civilization.

With the recent introduction (only 150 years or so) and subsequent popularity of “rapture” focused “end times” perspectives (See: Encouragement from Satan), many Christians in the West are deep into apathy, laziness and cultural disengagement as a way of “dealing with” things like art, culture, and technology. This is of course in direct contrast to the optimistic, engaging, and aggressively civilization-shaping worldview held dear and applied by the Pilgrims and Puritans who settled the land that we now call America. (See: Christian arts, public restrooms, and how the pursuit of excellence got “Left Behind”.)

Wouldn’t it be cool to see Christians claim that biblically optimistic, engaging, and aggressively civilization-shaping worldview again?

Wouldn’t it be awesome to see Christians apply that worldview again? (See: Why All Christians Should Own Robots.)

Wouldn’t it be encouraging to see Christians trade in their fear of the future for a proper fear of (and obedience to) the Lord? (See: Why the supercool hi-tech future terrifies us.)

Wouldn’t it be inspiring beyond compare to see Christians actually strive to “take every thought captive to Christ” in the realms of science, technology, and everything else? (See: Art, math, beauty, logic, law and economics…it’s all about Him.)

You know…as Christ has commanded and equipped them to do… (See: Jesus Conquers Everything.)

I don’t know about you, but I’m lookin’ forward to some Star Trek.

The real kind.

  1. Unfortunately, what the bible actually teaches is Pre-Millennial Eschatology. Post-Millennialists will get caught-up in the "wars and rumours of wars" which Jesus spoke about, believing them to be the actual Tribulation. A lot of Pre-Millennial Dispensationalists will join you, and when the Beast shows-up after the Gog/Magog war, the lot of you will be ready to crown the Antichrist as Lord!

Isaiah 26, Zephaniah 2:1-3, and Psalm 50:3-5 are just a few of the OT references that teach a pre-Tribulation rapture, along with numerous NT passages as well. You need to study your bible more.

As Jesus said "Now my kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36). Those who think it is will get caught into supporting the man of sin. If you think you can build the kingdom of God on earth, you have another think coming.

You need to study the life of David; he is the only man in Scripture known as a "Man after God's own heart". The way he behaved with his family and nation, (except with the case of Uriah) is the way God treats us. David was indeed the greatest king Israel ever had, even greater than any American President!

    • Postmils are the least likely to fall for the things you mentioned here. Frankly, as a thoroughly postmil guy who knows many, many other thoroughly postmil folks, I have to question your understanding of even the basics as you've presented 'em here.

Even so, thanks for chiming in!

      Respectfully,

      SAB

  2. PostMill, right (of course), wrong or indifferent, is the only proper way to think as a Christian. Everything else is just pessimism. Thanks Scott. I needed this one !!!
